The first time in the history  of Lakshadweep, the Department of Tourism - UT of Lakshadweep has celebrated the first NATIONAL MINICOY FEST 2012 at Minicoy Island under the joint aegies of Department of Tourism, IP&R and Arts & Culture in a colorful and festival mood with wonderful traditional events focusing the uniquieness of Minicoy with aim to promote tourism on 23rd and 24th December 2012 with the participation of other Islanders, domestic and foreign tourists as per following programmes.

 1. Boat Race Competition
 2. Minicoy Mini Marathon
 3. Jala Mela
 4. Aahaar Fest
 5. Handicrafts, Photo Exhibition
 6. Cultural Events
 7. Fire Works		   The Festival was inuaguarated by Hon'ble Adminitrator, Lakshadweep by flagging off the Prime Ministers Rolling Trophy Boat Race competition, the traditional snake boats of Minicoy Island which has been a part of Minicoy culture. Soon after the completion of boat race in various categories, the presentation of JALAMELA was started, displaying various water sports gears like Jet Skies, Speed Boats, Kayaking, Banana Boat Ride, Glass Bottomed Boat, Parasail, Demo of Tuna Fishing, Sail Boats, Wind Surfing & Scuba Diving etc.

The Aahaar fest with participation of SHG's from Minicoy, Kavaratti & Androth was also arranged as a part of festival.

An exhibition containing Minicoy handicrafts, glass paints, environment & natural conservation, photography etc were also structublue in the festival.		   Minicoy Mini Marathon covering 10 KMs was conducted with the participation of 200 more participants from Minicoy, other Islands, Indian Navy & Cost Guard. Hon'ble Member of Parliament was the cheif guest of the valedictory function os National Minicoy Fest 2012. The prizes for the winners of Boat Race & Marathon was distributed by Hon'ble Member of Parliament.

Cultural programme representing Island  culture was presented at the stage on first day for the attraction of tourists and the programme arranged by the cultural troupe from mainland was performed on the second day for the interest of Islanders.

A dedicated programme of MV Lakshadweep Sea was arranged for the transportation of tourist, dignitaries, media persons, cultural team for the fest.

An amount of Rs. 26 Lakhs has been  incurblue to celebrate NATIONAL MINICOY FEST 2012.
